ISO 45001 also places new requirements on the qualification of auditors. In addition, new calculation specifications apply to the determination of audit times. This may require new planning in the company.
integrate existing systems
ISO 45001 can be easily integrated into the existing quality and environmental management systems. However, it also offers companies that are not yet systematically implementing occupational safety and health protection a good start and easy handling of management standards. All international management system standards now have uniform terms and definitions as well as the same basic structure. This means less effort and lower costs for both large and small companies.
When introducing an integrated management system, companies will benefit from the new standard in the future, since the individual elements now have a uniform structure. With the new standard, the so-called High-Level Structure is implemented. This is already known from the latest versions of the ISO 14001 environmental management standard and the 9001 standards for quality management.
The iso 45001 transition from OHSAS 18001 to 45001 is 3 years
Companies have 3 years, i.e. until March 2021, to convert their existing occupational safety management according to OHSAS 18001 to ISO 45001. Companies that were previously certified according to OHSAS 18001 can gradually close the gaps in their management system and thus switch to the new standard. However, you can also aim for initial certification according to ISO 45001.
Possible risks must be evaluated, and a hierarchy of measures for reducing risks in health and safety at work must be derived from this. Opportunities for improvement should now be identified in a separate process.
